Corpulence is a growing problem of pandemic proportions. Less physical activity and a more energy dense diet have lead to more of us being obese.
In “Childhood Obesity: The health issue” by Deckelbaum and Williams they detail the horrifying revelation of 22 million obese children world wide who are less than 5 years old. They advocate supervision for reductions of food intake and increased exercise.
Grievous, off course it is, because they then go on to detail how this early childhood problem is translated into greater adult morbidity. They consider the prevention of obesity to be of paramount importance.
The teaching profession have two roles to play here, one in educating for better nutritional education – lower calorific intake, and to promote physical exercise.
Play sport, eat smart and live an extended life
For young children, this means engaging in the diverse range of activities that can be played with, engaged in with children’s play mats. It doesn’t really concern what it is, but make it physical , make it active and get them moving.
Kid’s play mats are now available in a wide variety of genre that promote their healthy, early childhood development. Themes embraced include, literacy, numeracy, gross-motor skills, cultural awareness and social interaction.

When you move up from play mats you arrive at giant games for kids where we are dwarfed by the game’s size. Often we are sequestered as the game pieces so we get physical activity.
